About the role
At Gemic, we work in small, self-directed teams. As a Strategy Lead, you will be responsible for leading your teams, start to finish, through the successful execution of client projects. This may include scoping and designing the project, supporting the day-to-day work of your team, advising clients, and partnering with a Director or project owner to further develop a client relationship.
At the same time, you’ll be responsible for demonstrating the values of servant leadership, setting an example of both kindness and focus under pressure.
Responsibilities
Project Management
- Independently run mid-to-large scale projects that combine research, data analysis, insight development, strategy development, or platform development
- Thoughtfully design research to fit client objectives and constraints – drawing on ethnography, foresight, semiotics, UX, and quant methods as appropriate
- Lead the translation of research into business relevant insight, strategy and value propositions, and further, into brand, product, and service platforms
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients
- Independently navigate unexpected snags in the project or client engagement
- Ensure that projects are delivered within scope, on time, and within budget
Business and Practice
- Own the development of pitches and proposals for incoming RFPs
- Help seek out new business and clients
- Help develop Gemic’s portfolio of approaches, methods and best practices, while occasionally advising on acquisition of new tools or software.
People and Culture
- Manage the distribution and pace of project work, balancing output with the wellbeing of your team
- Create an inspiring and inclusive dynamic, where each team member is utilized and encouraged appropriately
- Coach and develop junior team members using constructive feedback
- Foster the values of an inclusive and intellectually ambitious culture
Qualifications
The ideal candidate:
- Knowledgeable and passionate about the intersection of business and culture
- Expertise in one of our three core areas: cultural insight & foresight; innovation & design strategy; business & brand strategy
- 4+ years of experience in a top-tier strategy consultancy (e.g. business strategy, innovation strategy, marketing strategy, brand strategy)
- Including 2+ years independently managing complex, multi-stage projects
- Including 2+ years in a advisory capacity to senior client stakeholders
- Including 2+ years of managing small teams multidisciplinary experts and a proven ability to develop, inspire, and collaborate with diverse teams
- Degree in a social science (e.g. anthropology), design discipline (e.g. industrial design) or business discipline (e.g. business commerce)
- Deep knowledge of any of the following verticals: social & consumer, tech, finance, luxury, healthcare, social impact, mobility, education, CPG, F&B
- Expert in qualitative research methods and data management (e.g. ethnography, cultural & semiotic analysis, signal scanning, UX research, and other exploratory, generative or evaluative research methods)
- Highly preferred – proficient in quantitative research methods and data management (e.g. surveys, market sizing, social listening)
- German-speaking candidates (in Berlin office) a plus
- Strong ability to work through ambiguity, and navigate divergent points of view
- Openness to alternate ways of research, thinking, and strategy development
